MISSION STATEMENT
The Okanagan Mainline Ostomy Association of  B.C. is an organization dedicated to helping persons with an Ileostomy, Colostomy, or Urinary Ostomy. A self-governing, non-profit group with medical advisors.

We provide a three point program devoted to public service:

  1. Assistance to the person with an ostomy
The Association will send a member to visit the ostomy patient in the hospital pre-operatively and/or post-operatively at the request of the physician, or enterostomal Therapist.
A member will be available to the patient for friendly visiting , reassurance and help with  ostomy care and appliances after hospitalization.
  2. Education and Information
Meetings are held once a month.
An educational newsletter is published monthly and contains dates of meetings, and information helpful to all persons with an ostomy, their families, and friends.
All members receive the national magazine, "Ostomy Canada", with the latest information on ostomy care, supplies, and equipment.
  3. Rehabilitation
Members are given an opportunity to help others and so help themselves. They are encouraged to resume their former activities in the home and the community as much as possible, and enter into the Association's activities.

OWC Mission Statement:  We care about the well-being of our planet and unite people through mindful action in our continued effort to live in a sustainable world community.

Our World Community (OWC) was formed in 2003 by a number of North Okanagan residents. Their common interest is the desire to improve the state of the world one local issue at a time. The group believes that the best way to effect change is to focus the power generated by large numbers of people, to democratically identify concerns and move toward solutions which support a healthy and sustainable future.

Our World Community uses an interactive website as its main tool of communication. There one can share ideas, voice concerns, list issues, participate in surveys and vote on referendums. The site is a convenient and effective system that everyone is encouraged to participate in. Be involved a little or a lot!

In addition to the website, OWC publishes a bi-monthly newsletter, available at coffee shops and other locales in the North Okanagan. The newsletter highlights local businesses that use sustainable practices (i.e. recyclable products and/or ecofriendly services) and promotes the OWC concept in print form.

Our World Community continues to evolve as new members bring with them positive vision and innovative ideas. All input is valuable and diversity is encouraged. OWC does not operate for profit or personal gain, and is not affiliated with any particular political or religious group.

Membership is the key to OWCs success; the result is the attainment of a better world for all! To become a member (its free!), log onto the OWC website @ourworldcommunity.org. If you are not on the internet, call (250) 542-3379 to participate. Everyone is also welcome to attend the monthly meetings held the first and third Thursdays at 6 p.m. at the Blue Heron Restaurant. Please read the newsletters and feel free to contact Our World Community at any time for more information at (250) 542-3379.
